AI Merit Badges

Scouts Can Now Earn a Merit Badge By Learning About the Uses and Ethics of AI

Scouts once earned badges for skills like knot-tying and fire-building, and today, Scouting America and Scouts BSA announced the launch of two new merit badges in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity to help prepare scouts for a tech-assisted future. Now available to all scouts nationwide, these merit badges work with the recently released Scoutly AI Chatbot.

The AI Merit Badge teaches the basics of artificial intelligence, different types and how people use it, as well as ethics, impact and future career options, while the Cybersecurity Merit Badge covers online safety, strong passwords, data protection, and more.

Gen Z parents are turning to a variety of AI-powered toys, coding kits that introduce introductory programming concepts, and educational programs to help their Gen Alpha children build skills for the future.
