Higgidy is Adding Protein-Rich Scone Bites & Savoury Potato Frittatas

— March 31, 2026 — Lifestyle
In an effort to meet the explosive demand for extra protein, the UK pastry brand Higgidy has added two new protein-boosted options: Scone Bites & Savoury Potato Frittatas.

Designed as an easy way for consumers to pack more protein into their day, both of the new products are designed for quick, on-the-go snacking. The Scone Bites come in two flavors – Extra Mature Cheddar & Spring Onion and Crushed Sweetcorn & Jalapeño – and both feature a rich cream cheese filling in the center. Both are also made with free-range eggs and extra-mature cheddar, allowing them to pack three to four grams of protein into each serving.

On the other hand, the new Savoury Potato Frittatas boast a whopping 14–15 grams of protein per serving thanks to ingredients like free-range eggs, extra-mature cheddar cheese, and cottage cheese. The frittatas also come in two flavors: Greek Feta & Marinated Tomato and Beechwood Smoked Bacon & Mature Cheddar.

Trend Themes

  1. Protein-boosted Convenience Snacks — High-protein formulations integrated into familiar, ready-to-eat bakery formats create opportunities for products that satisfy taste expectations while significantly raising per-serving protein content.
  2. Savory Indulgence with Functional Nutrition — Combining rich, savory flavor profiles with functional ingredients like free-range eggs and cottage cheese signals a shift toward indulgent snacks that also deliver measurable nutritional benefits.
  3. Protein-packed Single-serve Breakfasts — Compact, single-serve morning options that deliver double-digit grams of protein point to new demand for portable breakfast items that replace traditional lower-protein pastries.

Industry Implications

  1. Packaged Snack Foods — The snack industry can be disrupted by reformulating classic savory bakery items to offer higher protein density without sacrificing texture or flavor.
  2. Foodservice and On-the-go Retail — Cafés, convenience stores and grab-and-go counters stand to redefine morning and mid-day menus by prioritizing protein-forward, heat-and-eat savory offerings.
  3. Nutraceuticals and Functional Ingredients — Ingredient suppliers and formulators specializing in dairy- and egg-derived proteins could enable novel texture and shelf-life solutions for protein-enriched savory bakery products.
