The Root Cabin by Kasawoo is a prefabricated timber structure located within vineyards and olive groves on the island of Zakynthos, Greece. The Root Cabin by Kasawoo measures approximately 2.5 by 8 meters and was built off-site to reduce construction impact on the land. Designed as a low-carbon alternative to large-scale concrete development, the cabin sits lightly within its surroundings while preserving the site’s agricultural use and historical context.
The layout places the bedroom and bathroom at opposite ends, with a central living space defined by large sliding glass doors that open to the landscape. External shutters and orientation support passive climate control, allowing the structure to respond to seasonal changes without reliance on mechanical systems. Interiors are lined with plywood and include integrated furniture such as the bed, kitchen units, and storage benches.
