Engineers and researchers at ETH Zurich, Empa and Bucher Municipal have developed a hybrid-electric road sweeper powertrain that will reduce energy consumption as well as emissions. The design gets rid of a conventional hydraulic power distribution with a far more efficient electric drive system.
The end result is a vehicle that can sweep the streets just as well as conventional options, but without emitting huge amounts of pollutants into the air.
The next step in the development of this technology is to look into the vehicle's modular platform and consider how it can be brought to market. If brought to market in the near future, this hybrid-electric road sweeper could help keep cities' streets and air cleaner than ever before.
