Gender-Fluid Demi-Couture Collections

Reed Harris Spring 2023 Challenges Gender Codes in Design

Reed Harris Spring 2023 debuted MISE EN SCÈNE at London Fashion Week with exaggerated designs that take inspiration from debutante balls and challenge gender norms in design. The performative works of art weave in the British-American designer's theatrical style for a take on a "new fluid society" that juxtaposes the rigorous codes of debutante balls.

Throughout the demi-couture collection, pieces like crinolines, corsets, headpieces and embellishments are reimagined with exaggerated proportions, inverted structures and distorted silhouettes. In collaboration with Vivienne Lake, headpieces were created to accent the looks.

Regal blues, rich yellows and bold hot pinks can be seen throughout the Spring fashion collection, demanding attention and offering a new take on an aristocratic event through the lens of challenging conventional gender design codes.
