The Quote Vendor by Alice Wang is a vending machine that distributes quotes in tiny plastic bottles filled with sand and a scroll.
The Taiwanese designer meant to make this a statement on people's desire for "fast food-style" information such as that of 140 character Tweets and Facebook status updates. Going along with this notion, she has devised this installation that distributes pearls of wisdom similar to those of a fortune cookie.
Scrolls also include the author's name and tile of her debut book to promote her own brand. One can select from a category to receive a short informative scroll. The Quote Vendor by Alice Wang references a time when there was more attention paid to text, and hopes to entice people with its statement-making concept.
