Stacked Concrete Memorial Concepts

Week Designs the New Qatar World Cup Memorial Concept

Architectural studio Week imagines the Qatar World Cup Memorial, which is a concept of a 4.4-kilometer-high structure. It is meant to reflect the number of reported deaths that were connected to the construction of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The imagined tower would be made from stacked concrete blocks and each one will represent the migrant workers that were reported to have passed since the country won the right to host the event back in 2010.

The studio tells Dezeen about the concept, "We chose the skyscraper typology because the impressive and imposing nature of the extreme height that the project could reach allows it to reflect the scale of the humanitarian disaster and the constantly increasing number of victims. Moreover, as it is a perpetually growing tower, there is no theoretical height limit, another typology of project would not have allowed this."
