Sustainable Smartphone-Charging

This St. Louis Public Charging Station Uses Renewable Energy

This public charging station allows you to power your phone with pedestrian footsteps. Startup EnGo is combining solar power and kinetic energy to offer people a sustainable way to charge their smartphones.

In front of the solar powered booth there are floor tiles that capture the energy generated from people walking on them. The public charging station can power up to 14 devices at a time (even if the sun isn't shining), making them perfect for urban areas. The cables it utilizes can be easily updated or swapped out all together, as can its wireless charging pads as technology advances. In addition to its innovative use of renewable energy, the station also offers free WiFi and has an emergency intercom system.
