Marriott Bonvoy is beta testing a Complimentary Upgrade List in its app that shows members with Gold status or higher where they sit in line for a free room upgrade before check-in. The tool turns one of the program's least visible elite benefits into something members can track ahead of arrival.
It is available at a small group of hotels now and is expected to expand to more than 250 properties in the U.S. and Canada by November. Seeing a place in line before reaching the front desk gives travelers a clearer read on their odds of moving into a better room.
App-based queue visibility turns a perk that often feels discretionary into a status benefit members can actually follow. In the Marriott app, that visibility also pushes hotel loyalty programs closer to airline-style upgrade management, where placement in line is part of the experience.
