Located in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, the Portoval Sports Hall by Sadar+Vuga is a multi-functional complex designed to be the host of the EuroBasket Championship in 2013.
A 14,000-square meter, three-level structure, the Portoval Sports Hall has a 5,000-seat capacity for both sports and cultural events. It features a warm-up hall, a fitness center and even a restaurant that overlooks the city. With 250 underground parking spaces, this sports complex also features special VIP parking areas for media and players.
The complex is designed with four parts: a tribune, a domed roof, concourse and a ring. The domed roof is meant to "provide a minimally compressed volume," according to the designers, while the ring encircles the main structure and works to enhance "the relationship between the arena’s inner spaces and the surrounding terrain."
