Temporary Shipping Container Bars

This Pop Up Bar is Made Using Discarded Cargo Carriers

Cargo is a pop up bar that is built inside old shipping containers. The temporary lounge is located in the heart of Christchurch, New Zealand and was opened as a result of the town's devastating earthquake.

The pop up bar's owner Henare Akuhata-Brown was among countless others who lost their homes and businesses during the natural disaster. Finding opportunity in crisis, the bar owner built this temporary shipping container lounge and appropriately named the space Cargo after its cargo container structures.

Cargo Bar has become a Christchurch hot spot for local residents and is a place that is designed with its region's unpredictable weather and earthquakes in mind. The sustainable bar re-purposes discarded shipping containers and transforms them into a communal space.
