Virtual Reality Headset Adapters

Sony is Adding PC Compatibility to its PS VR 2 Headset

Sony Interactive Entertainment has expanded the versatility of the PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) by introducing an adapter that enables the headset to be compatible with PC. This adapter allows PS VR2 owners to access a vast array of SteamVR titles, significantly broadening the scope of available VR content beyond the PS5-exclusive games. The adapter is designed to connect to the PS VR2 via its USB-C port and requires a DisplayPort 1.4 cable for connectivity. While the adapter opens up new possibilities for PS VR2 users, it is important to note that certain features such as HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble) are not supported when using the headset with a PC.

The PlayStation VR2 PC adapter will be available for purchase starting August 7, 2024, with a retail price of $59.99. Consumers can find the adapter at select retailers as well as through direct.playstation.com, where available. To ensure compatibility, users will need to meet the minimum PC requirements, which include a Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit operating system, an Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 processor, and at least 8 GB of RAM. For optimal performance, a graphics card such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600XT is recommended. It is also necessary to have a commercially available DisplayPort cable compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, which is sold separately.
