As if there have not been enough tasty pastry hybrids, Pix Patisserie in Portland has gone above and beyond by offering the macaronut. The macaron and donut mashup is available from Cheryl Walkerhouse and is described as a "deep-fried macaron covered in a light, fluffy batter."
The Pix Patisserie treat is an example of French and American fusion, where the Parisian macaron mates with the donut from the United States. This certainly beats waiting in line for a cronut elsewhere.
The deep fried macarons are just one example of how bakeries and individuals at home are getting creative by combining two distinct desserts in one delectable portion. The donut has been a frequent participant in these collaborations, but less so the macaron.
