Voyeuristic Vacationer Photography

The Peter Otto 'Tourist Places' Series Turns the Camera Around

If you've ever taken a trip to a popular vacation spot, you know what it's like to be surrounded by people taking photos and often finding themselves in awkward and hilarious poses while trying to snap a quick shot, which is exactly what the Peter Otto 'Tourist Places' photo series captures. The London-based photographer turns the camera on those who often find themselves behind the lens, and catches them in moments when they believe nobody is watching.

Of all the sneaky stranger shots, my favorite of the series shows a girl posing for her friend, attempting to create an optical illusion, presumably with a large landmark behind her. As a self-confessed people watcher, I had to admit that I get a kick out of watching tourists try to navigate through cities while snapping photos, so this Petter Otto 'Tourist Place' series is right up my alley.
