The Personal Genome Machine ushers in a new wave of compact, well-designed gadgets for research labs. Despite its name, it is not actually meant for personal use, or even diagnostic or therapeutic scenarios. Instead, it was simply created to signal its portability and revamped look.
Developed by Ion Torrent, who was recently acquired by Life Technologies, the cost-effective Personal Genome Machine is also equipped with an iPhone dock and touchscreen display, while boasting "a faster DNA sequencing result than most conventional sequencers," according to Psfk.
