Julio Salgado Imagines Iconic Shows Starring People of Color

California-based artist Julio Salgado created this series of images, which illustrates iconic TV show cast members as people of color. These eye-opening images highlight the fact that many shows from the 80s and 90s typically used a dominantly white cast.

This series titled ‘POC (people of color) TV Show Takeover’ aims to bring awareness of the racial division that existed within classic shows. From ‘Friends’ to ‘Sex and the City,’ these images boldly address the different social norms that existed just a few decades ago.

The artist was inspired to create these images as a way to show people that society has come a long way in the battle for racial equality. While the images feature an altered cast, many of the shows are not even on the air anymore. These images show that while racial inequality still exists, it is important to continue striving for a discrimination-free society.
