Ora-ito Reinvents The Look of Hardwood

— April 1, 2011 — Art & Design
This new line of home design from Ora-ito will play a trick on your eyes. At first glance, it may look like hardwood floor, but upon further examination you will realize it's actually a rug.

Ora-ito has designed a new line of rugs for Stepevi which resembles hardwood flooring, but is actually made of leftover scraps from carpets. The designer found his inspiration from pieces of carpet in the factory which were about to be thrown away. He didn't want them to go to waste, so he invented a creative new way to integrate them into new rugs.

Ora-ito used production waste to create his new design of rugs, reinventing the look of hardwood, which is why he calls it an “ecological & virtual design process.” Made from 100% wool, the rugs come in five different colors.
Trend Themes
1. Upcycling Design - Opportunities for designers to create innovative products using leftover materials, like Ora-ito's rugs made from carpet scraps.
2. Eco-friendly Home Decor - Growing demand for sustainable and environmentally-conscious interior design options, such as Ora-ito's rugs made from recycled materials.
3. Virtual Replica Products - The trend of creating virtual replicas of traditional materials, like Ora-ito's rugs that resemble hardwood flooring but are actually rugs made of wool.
Industry Implications
1. Home Furnishings - Disruptive innovation opportunities in the home furnishings industry with the development of eco-friendly and upcycled products, like Ora-ito's rugs.
2. Interior Design - Innovative interior design approaches that prioritize sustainability and use virtual replicas of materials, exemplified by Ora-ito's rug designs.
3. Sustainable Manufacturing - Opportunities for sustainable manufacturing practices by repurposing production waste, as demonstrated by Ora-ito's use of carpet scraps to create rugs.
