Popular birth control delivery app 'Nurx' is now delivering a drug for people who are at risk of contracting HIV. With the new service in place, Nurx demonstrates how mobile technology can make life-saving drugs more available to those who need them.
In addition to delivering birth control, Nurx will also provide a pre-exposure prophylaxis drug called Truvada. The drug is designed for people that are at risk of contracting HIV through a partner or though intravenous drug use. While the drug has proven highly successful in preventing the transmission of HIV, issues such as HIV stigma, lack of education and a shortage of doctors willing to prescribe the drug have made it difficult for patients to access. With this new service in place, more people who can benefit from Truvada will be able to order the drug without ever having to meet with a doctor or pharmacist in real life.
