Augmented Reality Game Divisions

Niantic Sold its Game Division to Scopely Incorporated

Niantic, the developer behind popular mobile games such as Pokémon GO, has announced the sale of its game division to Scopely for $3.5 billion. This transaction includes Niantic's entire game development team and its portfolio of games, which will now be managed by Scopely. Niantic's CEO, John Hanke, has assured players that their favorite games will continue to thrive under Scopely's management. The deal also involves an additional $350 million in cash, bringing the total value to $3.85 billion for Niantic's equity holders.

As part of the agreement, Niantic will spin off its geospatial artificial intelligence division into a new company called Niantic Spatial, which will focus on real-world 3D mapping and other geospatial technologies. This new entity will receive $250 million in funding, with $200 million coming from Niantic and $50 million from Scopely. Niantic Spatial aims to develop technologies for high-precision tracking, AR navigation, and real-time 3D mapping. The sale of the game division marks a strategic shift for Niantic as it moves away from mobile gaming to concentrate on geospatial technology.
