A group of Mexican women recently gathered together on Animal Crossing: New Horizons to protest against the death of Diana Carolina Raygoza Montes, a 21-year-old who was believed to have been murdered due to her feminist beliefs. The group of protesters met on an island with placards denouncing Diana's femicide and asking that for justice. The virtual protest has already gained international attention with thousands sharing the messages on social media to raise awareness for the wrongful death of Montes.
This is not the first time the gaming platform has been used for large events. Since the pandemic, Animal Crossing has been used globally to connect users for birthdays celebrations and weddings.
