Network-Based Deepfake Detection

Ribbon Detects AI-Generated Voices During Calls

Ribbon Communications is introducing network-based deepfake detection to help organizations identify AI-generated voices during phone conversations without requiring additional applications. Its Call Trust Deepfake Detection solution analyzes audio directly within telecommunications networks, offering protection across connected devices while identifying synthetic speech inserted into otherwise authentic calls.

The technology uses patent-pending algorithms operating through Ribbon's Session Border Controllers, which manage voice traffic between networks. It is designed to recognize manipulated audio even after transmission through different networks or audio formats. Customer laboratory trials are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

For telecommunications providers, the solution creates opportunities to offer specialized security services using existing infrastructure. Enterprises and government agencies could also strengthen defenses against voice impersonation and potential fraud. By integrating detection capabilities into network operations, Ribbon aims to address growing concerns surrounding trust in digital communications.
