Nespresso has launched a new packaging option for consumers looking to cut down on waste. The new home-compostable coffee pods are intended to reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastics while complying with the strict packaging laws set by the European Commission. The pods will first be available in France and Switzerland, with a global release to follow.
Nespresso has expressed its desire to move towards sustainable production and operations in order to achieve net zero in green coffee emissions by 2030. The new packaging option was created after Nespresso discovered that smaller third-party brands are releasing biodegradable coffee capsules to appeal to consumers who are concerned about the environment.
