Tech-savvy campers and backpackers can breathe easy knowing that the 'mPowerpad' is market-ready! The solar-powered device boasts a plethora of practical solutions to outdoor problems, including the ability to charge batteries, repel insects, shine a flashlight and tune into the radio.
Approximately the size of an iPad, the mPowerpad is capable of charging its hefty 2500mAh battery within six hours under the best conditions. Although integrated USB ports give you the ability to charge your handheld electric devices, devoted campers will probably want to hear about the on-board features of the mPowerpad. The gadget's embedded LEDs can switch from providing soothing reading light to an eye-scorching flashlight beam. Getting to sleep in a wild forest shouldn't pose a problem with the tablet's ultrasonic bug repellant (which lasts an impressive 20 hours) and AM/FM radio features.
The one drawback? The mPowerpad is devoid of buttons and relies on an accelerometer to determine which functions to use. I imagine the tilt interface would be a real challenge during the middle of the night!
