Compact Sampling Devices

Akai MPC Sample Provides Standalone Pad-Based Sampling and Sequencing

The Akai MPC Sample is a standalone music production device developed within the brand’s MPC range. The unit is designed for sampling and sequencing without requiring a computer, combining a pad-based interface with a touchscreen display. A grid of velocity-sensitive pads is used to trigger samples, while the screen allows users to edit, arrange, and manage audio within the device.

The system supports recording and importing audio, along with functions for chopping, looping, and assigning samples across pads. Built-in sequencing tools enable the creation of drum patterns and melodic arrangements, with controls for timing and playback. The device includes onboard effects and sound shaping features that can be applied during performance or editing. Connectivity options include USB, MIDI, and audio inputs and outputs for integration with external equipment.

Standalone Portable Production
A compact, computer-free sampler that combines pads, sequencing, and effects enables full production workflows in mobile contexts previously confined to studio setups.
Pad-based Tactile Interfaces
Velocity-sensitive pad grids paired with touchscreens prioritize hands-on performance and rapid sound manipulation, shifting emphasis from mouse-and-keyboard workflows to physical interaction.
Integrated Sampling and Sequencing
Onboard chopping, looping, and pattern sequencing bundled with sound-shaping tools compress traditionally separate stages of sampling and arrangement into a single device environment.

Industries Being Reshaped

Music Hardware Manufacturing
Manufacturers of electronic instruments stand to redefine product lines around compact, all-in-one production units that blend performance controls with standalone computing.
Live Performance Technology
Portable samplers with sequencing and effects capabilities could transform stage setups by reducing reliance on laptops and complex routing while enabling real-time arrangement changes.
Music Education and Content Creation
Affordable, self-contained sampling devices offer new pedagogical formats and content workflows for teaching production fundamentals and supporting creator-led tutorial content.
