Miniature buildable car collections are bringing hands-on assembly to classic toy vehicles as Mattel introduces its Hot Wheels Racer Series. Developed through Mattel Brick Shop, the collection transforms familiar 1:64-scale cars into compact building sets, combining collectible designs with functional components at a starting price of $4.99.
Launching in January 2027, the series initially features six vehicles, including the Camaro ZL1, Audi TT RS, Maserati MCPura, and Hot Wheels Bone Shaker. Each model contains 27 to 29 pieces, with metal base plates, rolling wheels, rubber-like tires, and detailed body components. The assortment is expected to expand to 20 models by the end of 2027.
For Mattel, the smaller building format creates opportunities to attract automotive enthusiasts and younger builders. Accessible pricing and an expanding selection could also encourage repeat purchases among collectors seeking to complete the series.
