French jewelry brand Van Cleef & Arpels unveiled its latest work entitled the Midnight Zodiac Lumineux Poetic watch collection. The watches were displayed at 'Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genève,' a luxurious trade show based in Geneva. The collection features a series of 12 watches that have the constellations of each zodiac encrusted on them to symbolize all of the signs. Every watch face has a small structure symbolizing the signs made in white gold and blue glitter -- all done by hand to ensure correct detailing. A unique feature of this is that these watches are automatic, reacting to movement of whoever is wearing it, occasionally lighting up.
The mechanisms behind the unique line of watches that initiates the miniature lighting underneath the gems are a result of something called piezoelectricity; this is a method that historically goes back to the 18th century. It is basically correlating specific materials that are able to induce an electric charge when regulated to mechanical constraints.
With the possibility of stargazing on one's own wrist, consumers will be captivated by the collection's launch later this year.
