Mac users could soon see live updates for music, screen recordings and other activities without having to open an app. Apple is adding Live Activities to the menu bar in macOS 27.3, making the feature available on Apple silicon Macs that don't have the Dynamic Island found on some newer MacBook Pro models.
The feature is already appearing in the current developer beta, with Apple Music showing playback information and screen recording displaying its current status. Rather than switching between windows to check what's happening, users can see these updates at a glance from the menu bar.
The update is expected to arrive in December, and third-party developers can also build Live Activities into their Mac apps. This could bring everything from ongoing downloads to other app notifications into the same easy-to-access space.
