Paper-Based Chocolate Packaging

Mars Swaps Out its Plastic Wrappers for Paper in a Tesco Trial

Mars is currently conducting a trial involving the utilization of paper wrappers for its bars within 500 Tesco stores across the United Kingdom. The decision to embark on this trial aligns with industry trends, as brands like Nestlé recently introduced revamped wrappers for its Quality Street and KitKat products. The collaboration between Mars and Tesco reflects a shared dedication to sustainable practices and signifies a significant step towards addressing environmental concerns in the packaging space.

“[T]he challenge was to find the right paper packaging solution with an adequate level of barrier properties to protect the chocolate whilst guaranteeing the food safety, quality and integrity of the product," commented Richard Sutherland-Moore, from Mars Wrigley UK research and development centre.
