These Major League Baseball beacons -- iBeacons to be specific -- are being installed in ballparks in Boston, Milwaukee, San Diego, San Francisco and more. The rollout is one of the largest in the world involving iBeacons. Despite still being in the very early stages, the iBeacons are already being successfully used to check fans into stadiums and send them notifications and offers.
It is hoped that the beacons will eventually be expanded to be able to provide directions, links to loyalty and rewards programs, shopping offers, concessions and other information, with individual teams being able to control what their fans see.
The iBeacon technology can be used in conjunction with iPhones equipped with iOS7 to offer a unique mobile perspective to the ballpark experience.
