Maggie’s Centre Northampton is a purpose-built cancer support centre designed by Stephen Marshall Architects and located next to Northampton General Hospital. The building provides free psychological, emotional, and practical support for people living with cancer, as well as their families and friends. It replaces earlier temporary facilities and is arranged to allow visitors to drop in without appointments or referrals. The centre includes kitchen and dining areas, quiet rooms, consultation spaces, and flexible rooms for group activities and workshops.
The architecture uses extensive glazing to connect interior spaces with surrounding gardens designed by landscape designer Arne Maynard. Rooms are organized around shared communal areas to encourage informal use and movement throughout the building. Natural light is used extensively to create calm interior conditions, with views outward integrated into seating and circulation areas. The building is formally named The Diana Russell Building in recognition of a legacy gift that supported its construction.
