The Luft by Audi is a sleek and modern armchair that has been inspired by the design principles that the company follows for its luxury vehicles. Tasked with the challenge to create a stylish comfortable chair, Walter de Silva, Head of Volkswagen Group Design, took up arms in the Munich-based Audi Concept Design Studio to do so.
According to Psfk, "The goal was to transform the traditionally hulking piece of furniture into a sleek and lightweight modern version without sacrificing user comfort." The goal was certainly met with Luft by Audi. Named after the German word for 'air,' the armchair achieved such a featherweight feature through the use of materials like aluminum. Used similar to the structural frame of a car, it highlights the contour of the backrest connecting to the base.
