You couldn't really expect to make exact plans for the Log Chop Bench since there are far too many unpredictable variables from its conception to its completion. The Practice of Everyday Design began with a clear idea of what they wished to create, but were open to the inevitable organic nature of each step of its realization.
The first uncontrollable factor was the size and shape of the massive reclaimed tree trunk that they acquired. The second was the way that it would evolve once their female lumberjack took her axe to its bark. The craftswoman then hacked out three unique indentations that would form the recesses for sitting. A motorcycle saddle maker had to fabricate custom abstract cushions to fit inside the Log Chop Bench, with geoform triangular sections that would fit snugly into the grooves.
