The LEGO Pine sculpture is not what is typically expected of Botanical artist Makoto Azuma. He has become renowned for what he and his green thumb can accomplish. Creating everything from boxed bonsai to bottled botany as well as working with Perrier-Jouet to recreate their packaging, the Japanese botanist has always worked with live materials. Nevertheless, the LEGO Pine sculpture shows he is willing to experiment.
Exhaustingly detailed, the LEGO Pine is a testament to Azuma's intimate understanding of the botanical world. Despite the pixelated materials used, he has successfully captured the multi-colored hue of the bark as well as the undulating surface of the moss surrounding it. The LEGO Pine is absolutely impressive.
