At first glance, the Legless Bar Stool looks quite dangerous with its "missing" leg. However, designer Josh Carmody's stool is perfectly safe to sit on. The Melbourne, Australia-based creative has simply camouflaged the fourth foot of this stool. The design employs an arrow-shaped base to support the sitter and hide the fourth foot.
The result is a clever piece of furniture that would likely make any bar patron recount the number of drinks they've had. According to Carmody, the missing leg isn't just for looks. It serves as a functional subtraction, making the seat more comfortable. The Legless Bar Stool isn't the designer's first piece of furniture to employ this optical illusion. He actually created a smaller stool that served as the inspiration for this project.
