KitSplit is an Airbnb-style peer-to-peer rental platform for technology equipment. The innovative service is currently in BETA and requires interested parties to request an invite.

KitSplit is a great alternative to traditional equipment rental companies that can charge exorbitantly. The site's founders hope that the service will simplify informal leasing of the equipment between individuals working in the creative industries in New York City, where the startup is based.

Launched in December 2014, the site already has over $1 million worth of equipment available for lease.

KitSplit could prove to be highly disruptive given the interest in renting equipment that may be too expensive of an investment for most. The service also boasts the interesting advantage that it could act as a creative community empowering and building tool, where potential future collaborators could very well connect on the site.
