Professors at the Tokyo University have successfully created a robot with real life, in-home practicality. Although unlikely to be affordable to the average home owner anytime in the near future, this prototype is capable of carrying out menial tasks that any housewife would be thrilled to pass over: serving drinks and even doing the dishes afterwards.
Most robot technology is used for industrial applications - this development of a robot for the home is an exciting advancement and will definitely be a welcome addition to the marketplace.
