Joywell Foods Will Launch New Sweet Protein Sugar Substitutes

Joywell Foods is a food technology company based in California that is set to disrupt the alternative sweetener market by introducing an all-new sugar substitute made from sweet proteins. In 2020, the company was able to secure $6.9M in Series A funding, which allowed it to further develop its technologies and ready its production processes for commercial scale.

Now, the company has officially entered its commercialization phase, announcing that it will be launching its first sweet protein beverages this fall. No doubt, the introduction of this new protein-based sweetener poses a challenge to producers of other sugar alternatives, which primarily rely on stevia and, more recently, monk fruit.

The company's specific sweet proteins include Thaumatin I and II, Brazzein, Pentadin, Curcumin, Mabinlin, Monellin, Lysosome, and Miraculin.
