'Johnny Footwear' is a startup company focused on producing truly sustainable, 100% biodegradable footwear. 'The Johnny' is the company's first crowdfunded shoe which is entirely biodegradable, and it is officially being produced. The Johnny contains all-natural ingredients such as cotton, beeswax, and cork that break down in just three years underground, as opposed to shoes that contain plastics which can take thousands of years.
When the shoes are planted underground, within the first 18 months the shoe will be over half broken down, enough to release the apple seeds placed within the shoe. These seeds will then grow into apple trees, offsetting the carbon footprint caused by the production of the shoe. On top of this, Johnny Footwear has vowed to plant one tree for each shoe sold.
