Variable Aperture Smartphone Cameras

Apple Has Unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro's Advanced Camera System

Apple unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, the first time aperture control has been available on an iPhone. Six laser-cut blades automatically adjust for depth of field and lighting, while new Pro controls let users manually adjust aperture, shutter speed and white balance directly in the Camera app.

The devices also debut Apple Reference Image, a feature that signs sensor data at the moment of capture to help verify photo authenticity, alongside the new A20 Pro chip built on 2-nanometer process technology and a redesigned vapor chamber that delivers up to 40% more sustained performance.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max also offers the largest battery life increase in iPhone history, reaching up to 45 hours of video playback.
