New York City wasn't having many takers for their free condoms, so they sponsored an online package design contest. Fifteen-thousand voters later, the international power button symbol, a circle broken by a single thrust up line, was chosen for New York City's limited edition condom label.

Implications - Package design has become much more than a small part of branding, and is now recognized as an art form in its own right. Products from all industries, including contraceptives, food, cosmetics, etc., boast added interest when more attention is taken to packaging design.
