The Innovega iOptik contact lenses are a system that uses a combination of eyeglasses and cutting edge technology that may have huge potential for military application. These contacts drastically improve vision, while showing another picture in the person’s line of vision.
This new technique can show users detailed maps including extra images projected from satellites and potentially, a live feed. These glasses have the ability to focus on close-up objects while simultaneously showing objects that appear further away. The US Army’s Department of Defense is extremely interested, and has requested prototypes.
Some comparisons have been made between Google’s Project Glasses and other companies that have created similar reality display glasses. Currently, there is a huge demand for multi-focal glasses to replace bulky soldier helmets. These multi-focal augmented reality glasses appear to be the future for military technology headgear.
