Scratch-Resistant Induction Cooktop Surfaces

Frigidaire Debuts the MatteGuard Cooktop Surface

Frigidaire has introduced the MatteGuard induction cooktop surface — a new innovation within its Frigidaire Gallery lineup. This product is designed to address a prevalent consumer complaint about visible scratches on standard glass cooktops.

Frigidaire's new matte finish is engineered to show five times fewer visible scratches compared to traditional glass surfaces. This is believed to help the appliance maintain a newer appearance over an extended period of use. Beyond its enhanced durability, the MatteGuard induction cooktop surface retains the core benefits of induction cooking, such as faster boiling times compared to gas, precise temperature control, and improved energy efficiency. The design also features updated minimal graphics, along with flexible cooking elements like a two-in-one bridge for larger cookware, all while ensuring the surface around the pan stays cooler for added safety.

Scratch-resistant Surfaces
Products featuring scratch-masking or scratch-resistant finishes present opportunities for appliances to retain a 'like-new' look longer, reducing perceived obsolescence and warranty claims.
Matte Aesthetic Finish
The shift toward matte textures creates space for premium styling and surface engineering that differentiates midrange appliances from glossy incumbents.
Flexible Induction Elements
Growing use of bridgeable and multi-zone induction surfaces enables new cooktop form factors and modular layouts that accommodate diverse cookware and cooking styles.

Industries Being Reshaped

Home Appliances
Durable surface technologies and refined graphics allow appliance makers to command higher margins through extended-lifecycle products and elevated design language.
Commercial Kitchens
Scratch-resistant, cooler-touch induction surfaces could reshape equipment procurement by lowering maintenance costs and improving safety in high-use professional settings.
Materials Manufacturing
Advanced coatings and textured glass manufacturing introduce possibilities for novel compound layers and licensing models for surface treatments across consumer electronics and furnishings.
