The House Comet by GAISS Rethinks Rural-Urban Living in Riga

— November 24, 2025 — Art & Design
The House Comet project presents a wood-driven family home arranged as a long linear volume that moves from intimate private areas to open communal spaces. The layout begins with compact bedrooms and gradually expands toward a full-height living room and a covered terrace.

This progression creates a visual and spatial journey from quiet zones to social gathering points, supporting both everyday routines and moments of retreat. The exterior uses red-stained timber on the lower level and a gently curved metal roof that wraps the structure, giving the house a contemporary profile in its rural setting.

A circular opening near the upper facade brings sunlight into the terrace and adds a sculptural element that changes throughout the day. Inside, exposed timber panels highlight the construction and connect interior expression to the external form. The concrete floor continues seamlessly to the terrace to strengthen the indoor-outdoor link. The design also considers long-term flexibility with children’s rooms that can be adapted as family needs evolve. The house blends atmosphere, material clarity, and connection to the landscape in a way that supports creative living.
