Architect Sheppard Robson is commissioned to design an extension for this horse hospital in Edinburgh. The project called for an additional unit for the Royal (Dick) Vey Equine Hospital, located on the Easter Bush Campus of the city's university. The extension houses the diagnostic and surgical facilities, as well as the critical care unit.

Sheppard Robson delivers a structure that costs 3.3 million pounds. The London-based architecture firm focuses on modernity and fuses the notion with a more traditional theme. Not only is the new building made to resemble a horse barn, the materials that were used by Sheppard Robson are also ones "found in agricultural settings" and include "sheet metal cladding and timber panels." As the project is rightfully influenced by contemporary aesthetics, the horse hospital extension also houses the latest technology in veterinary equipment.
