Balloon Flight Stunts

Erik Roner Used 90 Helium-Filled Balloons to Fly 8,000 Feet High

Extreme sports enthusiast Erik Roner attached 90 helium-filled balloons to a sun lounger chair and rose to an altitude of 8,000 feet, over 2 km. While the stunt is reminiscent of the movie Up, Roner says he did it simply because it's something he's wanted to do for a very long time.

The stunt took a lot of preparation and calculation. Roner and his team figured out how much helium would be needed to lift him off the ground, how high he would rise, how far he would travel and what he might do in case anything went wrong.

A lightweight lounger was used and a contraption put together using a 3-ring release system, cables, rope and string.
