The Hamburg State Opera project reimagines performance architecture for HafenCity by transforming the cultural venue into an open, navigable landscape rather than a closed-off building. Designed by BIG, the proposal spans roughly 45,000 square meters and introduces a tiered, wave-like structure that rises from the waterfront, creating public terraces accessible from every direction. These interconnected levels allow visitors to move through the site without barriers, blurring the line between civic space, parkland, and performance venue. The design also removes the idea of a single front façade, positioning the building as a 360-degree public destination.
