Lantern-Inspired Timepieces

G-Shock Aka-Chochin Has Red Resin Cases and Illuminated Kanji Details

The G-Shock Aka-Chochin collection introduces the DW-5600AKA-4 and DW-6900AKA-4, two digital watches inspired by traditional Japanese red lanterns. Both models feature monochromatic red resin construction across the case, bezel, and strap, referencing the appearance of aka-chochin lanterns commonly found outside izakayas.

Kanji characters reading “耐衝撃,” meaning “shock resistance,” are divided between the bezel and display. When the LED backlight is activated, the characters visually connect across the watch face. The bezels also incorporate hot-stamped grooves designed to resemble the ribbed texture of paper lanterns, with similar detailing extending to the straps.

The collection is based on two established G-Shock platforms. The DW-5600AKA-4 uses the brand’s classic square-case design, while the DW-6900AKA-4 features the larger round case with its signature triple-window display layout. Both watches retain the durability-focused construction associated with the G-Shock line while incorporating cultural references through color, texture, and graphic elements.
