Gem-Inspired Illusion Rugs

Alain Gilles Designs the Gem Rug Collection for Illulian

Belgian designer Alain Gilles creates the Gem rug collection for Italian rug imprint Illulian. It captures the shimmering details that are seen on natural gemstones and it is applied to the distinct rugs. Gilles takes a unique perspective of turning a gem into a rug by fusing two stones and shining a spotlight on the contrasting elements. It features rounded structures that are complemented with obelisks to bring attention on the angular details.

Gille speaks about the new designs, stating “[The collection] is directly inspired by the beauty of some small gem samples that caught my eye by accident while I was walking around the flea market on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. On our rugs, the beauty, transparency, and lightness of the two pieces of quartz, accentuated by the rays of the sun, have been translated into some very fresh and soothing rugs, where the veins and the different color variations of the stone take on all their importance and give the rugs their unique depth."
