Boy Scouts Earn Game Design Merit Badges by Designing Smartphone Games

The Boys Scouts in America are doing a fine job keeping up with the times with the introduction of the Game Design Merit Badge. This award recognizes that games are "an important element in every culture around the globe," as stated in the press release. Although the organization allows scouts to choose the type of game they would prefer to pursue including cards, dice and board games, it incorporates technology by allowing them to design a smartphone app.

Working with volunteers in the gaming industry over a span of two years to craft the Game Design Merit Badge program, it doesn't require the youngsters to have a background in coding to accomplish. Instead, they simply need to think of a creative concept and continuously tweak it based on testing and feedback.
