For those unfamiliar with mangosteen, the fruit is native to Southeast Asia. While round, purple, and hard on the outside, the inside of the fruit contains tender segments of soft white flesh with a distinctive floral sweetness. Many describe the faintly tart flavor as somewhat of a mix between a stone fruit, a citrus fruit, and a strawberry.
Trader Joe's new Freeze Dried Mangosteen manages to capture the unique flavor of the fruit by taking nine ounces of fresh mangosteen and then drying them until the flavor is highly concentrated. The result is a tasty, tropical fruit snack that can be enjoyed on the go.
